Operational Excellence in Focus Employee Recognition Programme Overall winners for FY21

Thursday, 21 October 2021

Many successful companies, if not all, recognise the importance of expressing thanks to their employees and other stakeholders. As a result, ISSA has launched an Employee Recognition Programme to help connect employees with the business' shared purpose through an ongoing stream of gratitude and acknowledgement for one another's contributions to the business.

The goal is to increase workplace engagement, productivity, and employee retention through this recognition programme.

Following are the overall winners, who have been recognised by their co-workers, who have given them favourable comments and commended them on their abilities and dedication. In this approach, everyone in the organisation can understand and appreciate ISSA's core principles, and they can help reinforce these values within their own divisions and be motivated to live up to them.

Here's what our overall winners have to say about being nominated and recognised for their hard work, as well as what motivates them to keep improving:

1. The “Front Line Leadership” Award goes to the production shift managers who are Patience Ntuli, Fredwin Broodryk, Calvin Deker and Gabriel Malevu.

Patience Ntuli

“It was such an honour to receive the recognition from the leadership at a time, where things were very challenging. We had just started the new shift pattern as production shift managers and then Covid-19 hit us. Life since then has had its surprises along the way, but I’m still enjoying the journey. I have since changed to another position and am currently the operational excellence specialist at Noodsberg as of August 2021. A different mill and a different culture from where I was a year ago, however, I’m gaining a lot of knowledge in the new role, which will enrich me in my future endeavours.”

2. The “Walking the talk” Award - Nishana Baboolall

“I have tried to figure this out over the years, and I think I finally have. I have always loved whatever I have done in all my roles, which have been very diverse extending from quality control to production, CI, S&OP and now commercial. In all these roles, I always did my best and aimed for excellence mostly because of my absolute need to solve problems. This enabled me to learn continuously and give my best”.

3. The “Go Getter” Award - Alcohol commercial team from Merebank

The team achieved a record local month during May 2021. Sales volume into the local market was in excess of four million litres and this was an exceptional achievement given the restrictions of the Covid-19 lockdown and the suppressed local economy. This was achieved by allocating product from the export market into the higher value local market to maximise profit. We achieved this by working together as a team. We appreciate the recognition from the business and fellow colleagues.

4. The “Safety-Phephisa” Award - Sharon Severn, Clinic sister-in-charge

“I am very grateful to be acknowledged as an overall winner; but I am fortunate to be able to work as part of a great team: thanks to my friend and colleague, Phili Ngcongo; the whole ISSA medical team, as well the Eston management team, who all provide immense support”.
